IRINA ALIMANESTIANU
ABOUT

Irina Alimanestianu was born to Romanian parents who fled Soviet Communism and was raised in New York, Switzerland, and France. As a first generation American, this instilled a sense of collective world history and cultivated an interest in the shared human condition. Her explorations of societal structures are reflected in her earlier work yet remain impactful on her creative thinking. Today, her biomorphic forms examine the invisible relationships between objects and their environment. She renders through color and shape subtle associations; connections are distilled into depictions of raw energy, manifested through the language of abstraction.
Alimanestianu holds a BFA from New York University, an MBA from Columbia University, and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. She works between New York and Los Angeles. Her work is currently on view at the Parrish Art Museum’s triennial show “Artist Choose Artists, 2019” in Water Mill, NY. Her work has also been exhibited at the Hammer Museum of Art in Los Angeles as well as been curated in gallery exhibitions in California and New York.
