MM Fine Art is pleased to present "What Once Was" a solo exhibition of the work of Cara DeAngelis at DFN Projects in NYC. On view April 6 - 28, with an opening reception April 13, 5 to 7PM.

DeAngelis' work explores  our conflicting desires as humans to both conquer Nature, and to live within it. Is the need to conform the natural world to our modern human society an act of love, or an act of fear? What does this dissonance say about our fear of being out of control, or back in the wild? The works in
What Once Was are neither Utopian nor Dystopian, but hints at both as humanity has come to a symbolic fork in the road. Which path will we take? What happens if we don’t decide either way?

Cara DeAngelis is a recipient of the CT Office of the Arts Fellowship Grant for 2012, as well as the Barbara Deming/Money for Women Grant. She has had full fellowships at both the Vermont Studio Center and the Prairie Center of the Arts. In 2010 she was awarded residency at the Terra Foundation in Giverny, France, along with a Guggenheim travel grant. She is also a recipient of the Rudolph Zallinger Painting Award. Her 2016 portrait of Donald Trump was covered by Newsweek, W Magazine, Provincetown Banner, and more.

In 2011, Cara graduated with her Master’s degree from the New York Academy of Art. Her work is represented in private and public collections including The Seavest Collection.
