Amy Zerner and Monte Farber Make Spirituality Accessible to All
While many of us may have experienced a loss of focus and direction in the last year-and-a-half as a result of the upheaval brought on by the pandemic (and everything else happening in the world), in their tidy house tucked away on a quiet road in Springs, Monte Farber and Amy Zerner, husband and wife creative collaborators and spiritual visionaries, were focused on the task at hand.

Fashion illustrations were pasted onto screens in Victorian times but the first collage to be created as an artwork was made either by Georges Braque when he stuck a piece of wallpaper onto one of his canvases in September, 1912, or by Picasso who, by his account, had affixed a slice of fabric onto one of his at the end of the previous year.

James Croak's Feet of Clay, Hands of Dust
In 1985, shortly after moving from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, James Croak was inspired to work with a new and unlikely sculptural material: dirt.
Earlier in his career, he had witnessed taxidermists mixing sawdust with glue to create forms that could be molded before hardening. “I didn’t have any sawdust around,” he said during a recent conversation, “but somebody had been excavating next door to where I was living. So I loaded a pail with dirt, dumped it on the ground, and made something -- I think it was a head -- out of dirt and glue. I had never heard of anybody doing that before.”
