DONALD SULTAN
​(American, b. 1951)


ABOUT

​Sultan was born in Asheville in 1951 and earned a BFA at the University of North Carolina and an MFA at the Art Institute on Chicago.  He is known for his large scale still life paintings, incorporating industrial materials such as tar, enamel, spackle and vinyl tiles. 


His works are in the collections of the Ackland Art Museum, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, Des Moines Art Center, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, the High Museum of Art, the Hirschorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, La Jolla Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Guggenheim Museum, Neuberger Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Toledo Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, North Carolina Museum of Art, Walker Art Center, among others. ​
