IRINA ALIMANESTIANU: Strands, Threads, Metabolic Meditations

Born to Romanian parents who fled Soviet Communism Alimanestianu was raised in New York, Switzerland, and France. As a first generation American, the artist was instilled with a sense of collective world history and cultivated an interest in the shared human condition. Her explorations of societal structures are reflected in her earlier work yet remain impactful on her creative thinking.
Alimanestianu holds a BFA from New York University, an MBA from Columbia University, and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. She works between New York and Los Angeles. Her work was recently selected for the Parrish Art Museum’s triennial show “Artist Choose Artists, 2019” in Water Mill, NY. Her work has also been exhibited at the Hammer Museum of Art in Los Angeles as well as been curated in numerous gallery exhibitions in California and New York. Her writings on art and artists have appeared in Art Issues and other publications.
