ABOUT
Nationally recognized artist, Dan Rizzie, is a skillful and inventive painter, known for his detailed collage work and the textural quality of his surfaces. His work, often influenced by the rhythms of the natural world, incorporates materials such as flashe, parchment, printed materials, and newsprint.
He has had dozens of solo exhibitions, most recently at the Peter Marcelle Gallery in Bridgehampton, NY and the Gerald Peters Gallery in Santa Fe, NM. His work can be seen in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Scottsdale Museum of Art, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and many prestigious corporate collections throughout the United States.
Dan Rizzie was born in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1951 and grew up in India, Egypt, Jordan and Jamaica. He received his BFA from Hendrix College in Arkansas in 1973 and his MFA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1975. He first began to achieve national recognition in Texas. In 1989 he relocated to the East End of Long Island, where he currently resides in Sag Harbor, NY.
2015 marked the publication of Dan Rizzie, published by the University of Texas Press. Showcasing an artistic career that has been both broad-ranging and consistent over four decades, Dan Rizzie is the first monograph on this internationally acclaimed American artist who has created a unique iconography of the natural world in paintings, collages, and prints.
